Kearifan Lokal dalam Pengelolaan Hutan di Desa Serdang Kecamatan Barusjahe Kabupaten Karo

Abstract

KARMILA BR GINTING. Local Wisdom on Forest Management in Serdang, Rural District of Barusjahe, Karo District. Supervised by AGUS PURWOKO and JUNJUNGAN SIMANJUNTAK. People living and live in the forest have a higher dependency so that the dependence encourage public awareness of the high forest and should be restricted to the norms or customs rules. Management of forest resources is strongly influenced by the community-owned kearifanlokal to prevent the adverse effects on forests. This study was conducted to inventory the extent of local knowledge of the communities can support forest management. This research was conducted in the village of Serdang District of Barusjahe, Karo in June to July 2014 samapai method used was a survey through interviews with respondents using questionnaires and direct observation and then the data is processed by descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that so far local knowledge of the communities has reduced the impact of forest destruction, although deforestation still going on. Community dependence on forests is also able to encourage people to keep and preserve forests. In this study, also known forms of local knowledge that can support local forest management such as Trust and / or restrictions that exist in the form of traditional ceremonies such implementation, working in Ceremony, mbesur-mbesuri ceremony, ceremony ndungi customs, ceremonies mbengket mbaru home, ceremony rebu -rebu, Ethics and land-use regulations such as prohibitions on logging of protected forests, a ban on catching the fish is by using poison and bombs, the prohibition on hunting protected animals, technique and technology in the form of making firebreaks to burn the remains of the farm, pay attention to the wind direction before burning, no burning during the dry season, land use practices and techniques in the form of division of an area into a number of land area to be planted with different agricultural commodities, applying intercropping techniques in agricultural activities, the use of compost and humus to maintain fertility ground, knowledge of the crop cycle, the selection of agricultural commodities in accordance with the knowledge and conditions of the planting site, and utilizing forest plants as a medicinal plant. This study also provides input for the government to continue to provide guidance and counseling for the community that local knowledge possessed people still evolving.
