Samosir, Samosir District, North Sumatra Province (Case Study Sub District
Ronggurnihuta and Simanindo).

The purpose of this study was to identify the type of orchid that exist in
North Samosir and to determine the distribution of orchid species in North
Samosir. There seach was conducted in the area of North Samosir, Partukoan
Village District Ronggurnihuta and the Village Tanjungan, Simanindo District of
North Sumatra Province, conducted from June to July 2011. The method
used is purposive sampling. Based on the results of research in the field found as
many as 10 species of orchids from 8 genera of orchids are found. Of the
10 species of orchids are found, six species of orchids are epiphyt orchid that
is Agrostophyllum magi, Bulbophyllum baileyi, Coelogyne Dayana, Coelogyne
salmonicolor, Dendrobium setifolium , Eria pilifera and 4 species of orchid is
a terrestrial orchid (soil) that is Arundina graminifolia, Phaius tankervilliae,
Spathglottis aurea and Spathoglottis plicata. From the patterns of distribution
of species of orchids can be seen that the spread
of orchids in North Samosir spread uniformly although the numbers are not
evenly distributed in each location . Factors that lead to unequal number
of orchids in each location is the temperature, air humidity, win, rainfall, soil and
altitude.
