RICKY HALOMOAN GEA. Effect of Particle Length Size on Oriented Particle
Board Quality made from Tali Bamboo (Gigantochloa apus Kurz). Under
supervised YUNUS AFFIFUDIN and APRI HERI ISWANTO.
Some disadvantages of particle board lies in the stabilization of the low
dimensions and strength. One of the factors that increase the stabilization of
dimensions and strength were using orientation of perpendicular on board. The
objective of this research was to analyze the physical properties and mechanical
oriented particleboard (OPB) by particle length with using a mixture of urea
formaldehyde (UF) and Isocyanate. Treatment of this research is particle size 3, 5,
and 7 cm. Board made measuring 25x25 cm2 with a target thickness and density
respectively by 1 cm and 0.75 gcm-3. OPB was manufactured in 3 layer with
orientation of perpendicular in each layers. Layers ratio in face:core:back was
1:2:1. The amount of 12% UF and Isocyanate resin with 67% and 97% solid
content each other for binding in manufacturing board. Mixing of particle and resin
did with spraying of UF first, then to be continued with spraying of isocynate. The
next step was hot pressing process in 1600C temperature as long 10 minutes and
30 kgcm-2 pressure. The results showed that parameter of physical properties for
density did fulfill requirement of JIS A 5908-2003 and SNI 03-2105-2006. The
results showed on parameter of mechanical properties for IB and MOR did fulfill
requirement of JIS A 5908-2003 and SNI 03-2105-2006. Treatment of particle
length. According to all the test parameter, 7 cm length size of particle were
resulting of the best properties compared with 3 and 5 cm length size.
