The small businesses engaged in food is a good business prospects and it’s
always needed to meet necessities of life. As with any small business tempe
producers are usually administered in the form of home industry. A business to
make tempe has a role in obtaining a job opportunity, business opportunities, and
increased revenue. However, its development has always faced regarding raw
materials, the availability and quality factors of production, the level of profits,
marketing and capital. A entrepreneur of tempe required to make a proper
development strategy capable of bringing the business survive and be able to face
competition. Strengths and opportunities of the business must be able to overcome
the weaknesses and threats on business tempe.
The purpose of this research is to identify internal and eksternal factors to
affect business development on soybean tempe small business in JL.Flamboyan 2
No.1 Medan. And determine what appropriate alternative of development strategy
to assist this business in order to develop and survive in the long-term future.
The method used in this research was a descriptive study and collection of
data did by interview, observation, and literature. The data analysis techniques
used in this research by SWOT analysis, IFAS and EFAS to maximize strengths
and opportunities and to minimize weaknesses and threats. To determine the
business development strategy did through the SWOT matrix and SWOT analysis
diagram cartecius.
The results of this research showed views of internal and external strategic
factors of small business tempe is in quadrant I or SO strategy is an aggressive
strategy that is determined from the difference between the strengths and
weaknesses with value is 1.37 and difference between the opportunities and
threats with value is 1.255. Aggressive strategy that can be applied to small
business tempe is market development strategy with maintaining and improving
the quality of tempe and increase sales by expanding the market area or add
customers to anticipate the loss of existing customers remain.
