This Research of The Tamiang War from 1873 to 1896 has the aim of analyzing how the war in Tamiang could occur so that it caused a direct conflict between the Netherlands and Tamiang which caused casualties on both sides. Second, this thesis explains how the war went and the impact it had after the Tamiang war was over. The thesis on the history of the Tamiang War 1873-1896 was written using the concept of war with an economic approach to analyze and explain the problems in this research. The method used in writing the Tamiang war is a historical method which consists of four stages, namely, heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and stages of writing, or also called historiography. This thesis uses archival sources in the form of documents, maps, photographs and related newspapers and books. The findings from the study show that the East Sumatra region, especially Tamiang, underwent many changes after European countries such as England and the Netherlands entered the Malacca Strait. Economic factors play a strong enough role in the contestation for the colonies, which are rich in natural resources in Tamiang. The discovery of petroleum in this area has strengthened Dutch military action to conquer Tamiang in order to launch oil exploitation and plantation activities. Military action as a form of Dutch power to expand the colonies and economic development has encouraged the Tamiang people to resist the form of forced control over their territory, giving birth to what is called the Tamiang War. The war, which involved not only Tamiang and the Netherlands, but England and Aceh, had changed the face of this region. Changes emerged after the war ended in various aspects such as government, economic and social systems that surfaced in the early 19th century.en_US
