The Batak Karo community is a society that practices a patrilineal kinship system. Usually in a society that adheres to a patrilineal system, the positions and positions of women and men tend to be unequal. The Karo community as one of the tribes by adopting a patrilineal system places the position and position of women tend to be unequal to men in various aspects of life, especially in accessing education. The reality that is commonly found in the Karo community does not fully apply to the Batak Karo community, Dusun Kuta Nangka. Therefore, in order to explain this reality, this research uses the theory of nature and nurture. The theory of nature (nature) which emphasizes the differences between men and women lies in innate differences (nature) and the theory of nurture (culture) which is the result of socio-cultural construction. The purpose of this study was to determine the gender construction of the Karo Batak farming family in Kuta Nangka Hamlet related to education. The method used in this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and relevant literature studies. Informants in this study were divided into two, namely the main informant with 10 pairs of parents in Kuta Nangka Hamlet and 10 additional informants. This study shows the findings of gender construction in Batak Karo farming families in Kuta Nangka Hamlet who adhere to equality which is shown through the implementation of the meaning that there is a system of division of labor between parents and a system of division of labor for children and a balanced relationship shown through the openness of children's access to formal education. In addition, gender equality in the Karo people of Dusun Kuta Nangka is possible because there is cultural contact through inter-tribal marriages that occur in parents, such as Batak Karo men marrying Batak Toba women also influencing parents to provide the highest possible opportunity for the children in the family.
