Breast milk is the best food that meets all the growth and development needs
of babies until the age of 6 months. There are problems in the breastfeeding
process experienced by a mother, one of which is less milk production. The
problem of breast milk that does not come out on the first day of a baby's life
should be anticipated since pregnancy through lactation counseling. This
descriptive study involved 30 breastfeeding mothers in Dalu 10 Village, Tanjung
Morawa District, carried out retrospectively to determine breast milk production
during pregnancy and lactation. Data on the timing of breast milk production
during pregnancy and the adequacy of breast milk during breastfeeding were
obtained using a questionnaire. The results showed that breast milk had begun to
be formed since pregnancy in most mothers (56.6%). There were 2 mothers
(6.7%) whose breast milk was not secreted immediately after delivery. In the 1st
week of breastfeeding, only 21 mothers (70%) had a lot of/enough milk
production, while after the 1st week of breastfeeding the number of mothers
whose milk production was large/enough fell to 17 (56.7%), and after 1 month of
breastfeeding only 7 mothers (23.3%) had a lot/sufficient milk production, most of
the others (76.7%) had less/no breast milk. Only a small proportion of mothers
consume milk and a balanced menu during pregnancy and lactation, as well as
breast-feeding supplements are only consumed by 30% of mothers. Health
workers must remind pregnant and lactating women to always consume a
balanced healthy menu during pregnancy and lactation. Further research needs
to be done to identify the factors that influence the production of breast milk,
especially related to the physical and psychological conditions of the mother
during pregnancy and breastfeeding
