Sleep quality decreases with age. Many factors can affect the sleep quality of an
individuals, especially the elder’s. Physical exercise in the form of elderly
gymanastic becomes one of the references to improve good sleep quality in the
elderly. This study uses a quasi-experiment method, which aims to identify the
effect of elderly gymnastic on the sleep quality of the elder at the Puskesmas
Medan Sunggal (Public Health Center). This research was conducted in the
working area of Puskesmas Medan Sunggal, from November until Desember
2019. The samples were 75 respondents selected by applying purposive sampling
technique. Sleep quality research instruments were measured using the Pittsburgh
Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. To analyze the sleep quality of the
elderly before and after doing elderly gymnastic, paired sample t-test was used
with the results obtained that p = 0,000 or <0.05 Ha that accepted. The
conclusion that before the intervention, after the intervention, and the influence of
elderly exercise on the quality of sleep of the elderly have an effect. Based on this
study, it is hoped that further researchers will further increase the use of elderly
exercise as an effort to overcome the problem of decreasing sleep quality.
