JANNER WILLIAM GINTING: Variation of Particle Size and Comparison
Adhesive Content Urea Formaldehida and Phenol Formaldehida on Physical and
Mechanical Properties of Particleboard Made of Residu Oil Palm Trunks.
Supervised by RUDI HARTONO and TITO SUCIPTO.
The waste oil palm trunks is a alternative basic commodity manufacture
particleboards. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the physical and
mechanical properties with the influence particle size and comparison adhesive
content urea formaldehida and phenol formaldehida. get the optimal size and
comparison adhesive content of particleboard made of residu oil palm trunks.
Board were made with size 25 cm x 25 cm x 1 cm with density of 0,7 gr/cm2
.
Particleboard using urea formaldehida and phenol formaldehida adhesive, press
25 kg/cm2 for 10 minute and experiments were analyzed by factorial with
completely randomized design in 3 particle size (20 mesh,35 mesh and 50 mesh)
and 4 comparison adhesive content (45%:55%, 30%:70%, 15%:85% and
0%:100%). Particleboard was tested for density, moitusture content, water
absorption, thickness swelling, internal bond, modulus of elasticity and modulus
of repture. Result showed that comparison adhesive content, particle size and
interaction comparison adhesive content and particle size have significant
influence to the density, moisture content, thickness swelling, water absorbtion,
MOE, MOR and IB. The result of the research so that density value 0,53-0,65
g/cm3
, moisture content 10,05%-12,68%, water absorption 47,5%-86,7%,
thickness swelling 4,1%-12,6%, modulus of elasticity 4514–10481 kg/cm2
.
modulus of repture 34–107 kg/cm2 and internal bond about 1,4-4,8 kg/cm2
.
Density, moisture content, water absorbtion, thickness swelling and internal bond
had filled SNI 03-2105-2006, modulus of repture and modulus of elasticity hasn’t
filled the standard. Optimal condition was attained by combination of particle
size and comparison adhesive content of 20 mesh and 0%:100%, were the density
0,63 g/cm3
, moisture content 12,55%, water absorption 86,69%, thickness
swelling 10,2%, modulus of rupture 107 kg/cm2
, modulus of elasticity 10481
kg/cm2
and internal bond was 4,0 kg/cm2.
