SAMUEL FRANSISKUS SILABAN : Phytochemical Screening and Antioxidant
Activity Test of Ethanol Extract of Gaharu Leaf (Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk.).
Under the supervision of RIDWANTI BATUBARA and HERAWATY GINTING.
Gaharu leaf (Aquilaria malaccensis lamk.) today has been popular used
by gaharu farmers as a health beverage, but the research of chemical compound
that contained in gaharu leaf and the ability of antioxidant activity haven’t yet
done. Therefore, a research had been conducted at laboratory farmakognosi, and
research lab the faculty of pharmacologists USU in July-October 2013 with
extracting the fresh gaharu leaves and simplex by maceration method using a
solvent ethanol 96%. Phytochemical screening covering checkings alkaloid
contain, glycoside, steroid/triterpenoid, flavonoid, tannin and saponin. The ability
testing of activity antioxidant was done with by using DPPH method with the
concern parameter is free radicals at the 60th minute with different concentration
(40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm and 100 ppm) and IC50 value (inhibitory concentration)
that analyzed by using regression.
Inhibitor free radical by extract of fresh gaharu and ethanol simplex
showed that high concentration increased the activity of inhibitor free radicals.
Test results showed that all of extract and simplex have antioxidant activity. The
most active ethanol extract simplex with IC50 value 31,12 ppm and ethanol extract
of fresh gaharu leaf 38,16 ppm. The result showed that ethanol extraction of fresh
gaharu leaf and simplex contain flavanoid, glycoside, steroid/triterpenoid and
tannin as the chemical compounds.
