Abstract

RIZKI RAHMATULLAH HASIBUAN. Liquid Smoke from the Waste of Frankincense’s bark As Alternative Preservatives for Wood Rubber, supervised by TITO SUCIPTO and RIDWANTI BATUBARA Liquid smoke of frankincense’s bark is one alternative preservatives from natural ingredients and contains compounds that can be used as food preservative and wood preservatives. The purpose of this study was to determined the quality, characteristics, and chemical composition of liquid smoke of frankincense’s bark and evaluate the resistance of rubber wood preserved with liquid smoke against subterranean termites. Frankincense’s bark was obtained from Matiti Village, Dolok Sanggul City, District Humbang Hasundutan and rubber wood was obtained from Limau Mungkur Village, Tanjung Morawa City, District Deli Serdang. This study used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 6 replications and was conducted in December 2013 until May 2014. Chemical compounds that were identified from liquid smoke include acetic acid, mequinol, phenol, cinnamic acid, and furfural. Parameter that was observed was a decrease in dry weight of rubber wood. The results showed that the use of liquid smoke of frankincense’s bark reducing the resistance of rubber wood against subterranean termites
