Abstract

This research tries to explain the politics and environmental issues in Indonesia especially in the forestry sector. Furthermore, this research will illustrate how the condition of deforestation and forest degradation in Indonesia. Environmental meetings on an international scale see that the threat of forest loss will have an impact on climate change and global warming. The REDD + scheme emerges as a forest rescue solution with funding mechanisms by developed countries to countries with large forests areas such as Indonesia. In the process of institutionalization and formulation of REDD + policies in Indonesia, there is certainly a pull of interest based on interests of different actors. The theory used in this research is the theory environmental politics, the theory of political economy and the theory of sustainable development. Environmental political theory is used to see how far the role of the state putting natural resources as a part that must be monitored and maintained its sustainability. Political economy theory is used to see how the state policy in prioritizing natural resources as a source of economic driving. While sustainable development analyzes the sustainability of natural resources against needs so as to keep its wholeness for future generations. This research uses qualitative research types. The study was descriptive in nature, i.e., describes the problem of research. This research tries to elaborate on Indonesia's interests in the scheme REDD + as well as the factors cause by gathering information in the form of reports and documents from the institutions that focus on issues in this research.
