dc.description.abstractThis study describes the pattern of matrilineal culture in political circumstances regarding the representation of women in Parliament West Sumatra in 2014. This research background backs by strong matrilineal culture in the people of West Sumatra that appear from social and cultural life of West Sumatra as the clan system or lineages are striped to the mother, as well as the division of the estate who prefers women. This is a major impact on the development of women's quality of West Sumatra, especially in the political field. The theory used to analyze this culture is Theory of Political Culture by Gabriel Almond. This political culture classifies into three types, which are parochial politics, political subjects, and political participants, this aim is to view and classify women Minang’s culture in terms of theirs activity or their political participation. This study also used Women's Political Theory and Representation Theory. The method used in this study is a qualitative method using interview techniques and documentation. The result of this study shows that the pattern of matrilineal culture has no any relation to the representation of women in West Sumatra Provincial Parliament. It seems from the low number of legislators are female which is only reached 9% only. This is because Women Minang gives full credence to the men for public activities. Solutions to enhance the activity of the institution Kanduang Bundo expected to make women can improve the quality and increase the penalty to political parties participating in the election that the party is serious about providing education to the party cardes is a solution that can be applied.en_US
