dc.description.abstract | The phenomenon of transsexual is a real case whose existence cannot be denied in
society. Transsexual is one of the social welfare issues in Indonesia, whether it is
psychologically, socially, normally, or physically. They tend to live in glamorous and
exclusive life, or limit themselves only to their community. The work environment is
identical to a beauty life for example salon, but it is a common thing that transsexual is
related to the world of prostitution. This study aims to determine the factors that affect
transsexual in becoming commercial sex workers.
This research is descriptive and using qualitative approach by analyzing the factors
that affect transsexual in becoming commercial sex workers at Lapangan Tengku Raja Muda
Kelurahan Lubuk Pakam III Kecamatan Lubuk Pakam Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Therefore,
there are no population and sample in qualitative research, but the informants who provide
clear, accurate and reliable information, both in the form of statements, information or data
that can help answering the problems or issues. The informants are divided into three
categories; key informants which are five transsexual sex workers, main informants which
are five persons each from the parents of transsexual sex workers and their friends, additional
informants which is the Head of Subdistrict of Lubukpakam. In order to obtain the needed
information or data, the researcher uses data collecting method through library research and
field research by conducting observation and interviews.
In this study, it can be concluded that the dominant factor affecting the transsexual in
becoming commercial sex workers at Lapangan Tengku Raja Muda Kelurahan Lubuk Pakam
III Kecamatan Lubuk Pakam Kabupaten Deli Serdang is the economic factor. Not only that,
there are other factors that affect transsexual in becoming commercial sex workers such as
heredity, bad social factors and factors originating from the transsexuals themselves where
they feel comfortable and happy being commercial sex workers. | en_US |
