| dc.description.abstract | This study was conducted to describe the social life of people in the hamlet
Sopokomil, Dairi Regency. In this village is the location for mining activities of
PT Dairi Prima Minerals. Mining is present around 1998 in the area. Although
still in the exploratory stage, the presence of these mines gives some changes in
aspects of people's lives around the mine. Specifically in aspects of social
cohesion in society.
This study used a qualitative method with descriptive approach. Researchers
conducted interviews with the community around the mine with community
leaders and local government, and direct observation in the field. The aim is to
illustrate how the form of social cohesion that took place in the presence of the
mining community from the beginning starting from the planning stages of
mining, development stage company and exploration stage and up to the current
phase of mining in the vacuum operation.
Results from this study explains that there is a change experienced by the people
of Sopokomil after the presence of mining in their area. As expressed by Merton.
That what works well for one group may not benefit the whole system. The
presence of mining companies is functional for entrepreneurs, owners of capital
and local governments, as well as local communities. Because it provides quick
cash, land compensation, and work in the mines. But over time, the presence of
mining become disabled because of the community around the mine became
dependent on money from the company to lose the values of togetherness among
them. Nevertheless in the vacuum, Sopokomil community find ways to resolve
their problems, the vacuum company event raises awareness within the
community to improve themselves so that people back in balance. | en_US |
