Poverty has long been a problem of the Indonesian nation. Poverty experienced by
the family resulted in the phenomenon of the involvement of children to earn
money every day to help meet family needs. Children are seen as economic value
because of the child will help support family economic life. Until now people in
Indonesia still consider that children work in the context of helping parents, as
well as children's learning process into adulthood and in the future as stock of
independent life. So the research problem studied is how the economic value and
the fulfillment of children's rights in poor families in the Village Tanjung Gusta
Sunggal District Deli Serdang Regency.This research is a descriptive research
with qualitative approach that is trying to give description about economic value
and fulfillment of children rights in poor family. Informants in this study were 11
people, 5 main informants (children in poor families), 5 key informants (parents
of main informants) and 1 additional informant (toke botot). The results of this
study found that children who work to help parents because of lack of income
parents. Children in impoverished families are still educated, but only one child
cannot go to school. The unmet rights of the children are playing and the lack of
rest time. The rights that are still obtained by children are: Worshiping,
expression, parenting, getting protection, getting attention and affection and
getting education.
