    Abstract
    Background of this writing departs from the life of fishermen community in Indonesia, especially traditional fishermen who always in identical with poverty. Indonesia's marine conditions that provide such a huge potential, in fact there is a bitter reality where fishing communities have not been able to get out of the circle of poverty. Such a condition is a reality that can not be denied so it is necessary to be studied about the socio-economic life of fishermen and the factors that cause the poverty. This research was conducted in Bagan Village Percut Village Percut Sei Tuan Sub-district Deli Serdang Districts. Bagan is a village located in Percut village, Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang District. This location is a place of research because this region is a coastal area that the majority of the population livelihood as fishermen. The purpose of this study is to find out how the social life of the fisherman's economy, especially the traditional fishermen in Bagan Village. This research uses qualitative research method with case study approach. Informants in this study are divided into 3 parts, namely the main informants, key informants and additional informants. The main informant consisted of 2 fishermen and 1 Fisherman nets of bloated fish. Key informants are fishermen's wife and fisherman's son. Additional informants is Skipper shells and head of Village 18. Data collection techniques were conducted with participative observation and indepth interviews. Based on the data that have been obtained from the field and in the analysis of the socio-economic life of the fishing community is poor. This is because the traditional fishing life is entirely dependent on the catch obtained from the sea. The poor condition of traditional fishermen in Bagan Percut can be seen clearly through the condition of less decent housing, uncertain fishermen's income, fishermen children who have dropped out because parents can not afford to send their children to school. Such a condition is not an automatic situation in the life of traditional fishermen but there are various things that cause it as follows: the habit of fishermen who spend a day's income for daily needs, extravagant / non-saving lifestyles, limited capital capabilities, limited human resource quality, Marketing of the catch, the negative impacts of the government's structural program and including the natural conditions.
