HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a type of virus that attacks the
human immune system and can cause Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS). HIV attacks one type of white blood cells in charge of warding off
infection. People infected with HIV / AIDS are no longer only present in high-risk
groups but have spread to children and housewives loyal to their husbands. They
are contaminated from their parents or spouses through seminal fluid, vaginal
fluid, and breast milk.
This research belongs to the type of descriptive research using qualitative
approach that aims to describe the impact of stigma and discrimination against
PLHIV. Informants in this study are divided into 3 parts, namely the main
informants, key informants, and additional informants. With the composition of
each informant is 1 person key informant that is an institute staff, 5 main
informant of the patient of HIV / AIDS, and 2 additional informant that is society.
Methods of data collection conducted is literature study, in-depth interviews and
direct observation to the field.
Based on field research, the problem that is often faced by people with
HIV / AIDS is in addition to defend against disease, also defend against stigma
and discrimination of society in its social environment, such as in group
environment, work place, residence. From the results of research conducted can
be concluded that the stigma and discrimination given the family / community to
PLWHA has a negative impact on the patient. There were 4 informants who had
