dc.description.abstractCases of drug abuse increased rapidly in Indonesia, although the government and the community has made various efforts. Drug abuse is difficult to eradicate. That can be done is to prevent and control so that the problem is not widespread and detrimental to the future of the nation because of the decline in the quality of human resources. One of its efforts is to do a recovery for the victims of drug abuse. The recovery process involves counselors are in the process depends on how counselors and role while providing services. Counselors are officers who interact more directly with victims of drug abuse in the Recovery Center Shelter Socio-Economic Development Caritas Medan. This research is a descriptive qualitative. Data collection method used in this research is to use the method of individual experience (life story) of the study subjects are two key informants consisting of Project Manager Division of Special Health Shelter PSE Caritas Medan and one counselor at Recovery Center Shelter PSE Caritas Medan , 3 key informants consisting of victims of drug abuse existing undergoing a 50-day or more, and 2 additional informants consisting of drug abusers who have completed the program and one of the members of his family. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive-qualitative analysis techniques are more concerned with the provisions and the adequacy of the data. The results of the study explained that the counselor has an important role in the recovery process of victims of drug abuse. Because the counselor is a person who helps the recovery of victims of drug abuse in order to live a good recovery. Counselors seek to change behavior for the better so that the victims of drug abuse have a higher quality of life. In its role to help victims of drug abuse, counselors do some things that asessmen, counseling, and monitoring.en_US
