Abstract

This study is intended to determine how the strategy in meeting the needs of the elderly poor families. The target group in this study were elderly people aged 60 years and over who worked as a night guard at the complex, farming, artisan buzz, a janitor who cleans the yard area residents, farming. The elderly chosen because they see their efforts to keep working at age no longer young and old that no longer work, but they should still work. The location of this research is Sempakata village, subdistrict of Medan Selayang, Medan. Besides using secondary data monograph village or profile Village also using primary data obtained through the help Interview Guide (interview guide) to six elderly people working as officers on night duty in the complex, farming, artisan buzz, a janitor who cleans the area of the yard homes, farming. Analysis of the results of research using descriptive method which is based on qualitative data. These results indicate the general condition of the elderly poor in Sub Sempakata subdistrict of Medan Kota Medan Selayang have financial conditions do not support the elderly. therefore they have to keep working. They work as required to meet the needs of their families with financial limitations of weak physical condition they still have to work so that their needs can be met. There are several strategies to meet the needs of the elderly poor their families following the strategy used by the elderly: Active Strategies conducted the elderly poor is to look for a second job, family members go to work and optimize available resources. Passive strategy carried the elderly poor is by adopting a frugal life. Network strategy that made the elderly poor are asked for
