Disaster is an event or series of events that threaten and disrupt people's
lives and livelihoods caused by both natural factors and / or non-internal factors
and human factors resulting in the occurrence of human casualties, environmental
damage, property loss, and psychological impact.Eruption of Mount Sinabung that
occurred in 2010 until now has a major impact for the people of Karo, especially
for the people of Mardingding Village, Tiganderket Sub-district, Karo Regency
who must stay in Refugee Refugee Post Peren Tiganderket District Karo
District.Eruption of Mount Sinabung caused the destruction of dwellings, loss of
property, loss of livelihoods of the population, especially for farmers caused by
the destruction of agricultural land. All this makes the process of impoverishment
for the people who are experiencing such a disaster so that the Mardingding
Village community needs a survival strategy.This research belongs to the type of
descriptive research using qualitative approach which aims to describe or describe
the object and phenomenon to be studied.This study aims to determine and
describe the survival strategy of Mardingding Village victims of eruption of
Mount Sinabung in Refugee Refuge Station Peren Tiganderket District Karo
District. This research was conducted at Refugee Shelter Post Peren with 6
respondents. Data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews
and documentation.Technique of data analysis in this research is qualitative
analysis technique.Data analysis is not required statistical test using certain
formulas, but rather proposed as a type of descriptive research.Based on the
results of research that has been done shows that there are three strategies that
Mardingding Village Community to survive the active strategy, passive strategy,
and network strategy.Active strategy of finding side jobs, increasing working
hours, and involving working wife. Passive strategy is to save family expenditure,
while network strategy is borrow money to family and Private Cooperative.
