The performance of nurse practitioners is an important indicator on the
quality of health care at hospitals. It was influenced by various factors; one of them is
hospital organizational communication. Organizational communication is the
transfer of information and knowledge from superiors ' to their subordinates, from
subordinates to their superiors, and horizontal relationship which highly determine
the success of nurse practitioners.
The research was an explanatory survey which was aimed to analyze the·
causal correlation or the influence of organizational communication on t, 1e
performance of nurse practitioners at Bunda Thamrin Hospital. The population was
82 permanent nurse practitiners with the length of service of± one year, and all of
them were used as the samples.
The objective of the research was to analyze the influence of organizational
communication (superior-subordinate, subordinate-superior, and horizontal
communications) on the performance of nurse practitioners at Bunda Thamrin
Hospital, Medan.
The result of the analysis showed that only the variable of horizontal
communication which had the influence on the performannce of nurse practitioners
at 5.9%. It could also be concluded that, theoretically, the better the horizontal
communication was developed, the more capable it was in increasing the
performance of nurse practitioners at Bunda Thamrin Hospital, Medan.
