dc.description.abstract | Cooperative and UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Businesses) play their role
in the economic growth and the employment of workers. The existence of UMKM
is not only the place for tecrutting new employees who are not in the formal
sector but also as a motor for the growth of economic activities. North Sumatera
Province has a potential cultural heritage to be developed. However, UMKM
academicians state that there is still no specific local characteristic established
through UMKM which causes North Sumatera lags from the other provinces in
Indonesia in appreciating local wisdom. The Cooperative Service and UMKM say
that there so many UMK.Ms in the economic sectors. North Sumatera has had
several documents and industrial profiles; but, unfortunately, so far it has not
included cooperative industry and UMKM so that there is no certain number of
them. The objective of the research was to find out and to analyze the
performance of the Cooperative Service and UMKM in North Sumatera, viewed
from the perspectives of .financial, service users, internal process, and learning
and growth. The result of the research, based on the analysis of the financial
perspective, indicates very good peiformance (92.42%) and based on the
perspective of service user, indicates bad performance (52.8%). The evaluation
on the perspective of service users done by the cooperative management an.ii
UMKM does not show any difference in sex, education, age, and the length of
service. From the perspective of internal process, it indicates bad peiformance
(58.86%). The evaluation onJhe perspective of internal process conducted by the
employees of the Cooperative Service and UMKM of North Sumatera does not
show any difference in sex, education, age, and the length of service. The
evaluation on the perspective of learning and growth conducted by (lie employees
of the Cooperative Service and UMKM of North Sumatera does not show any
difference in sex, education, age, and the length of service. All in all, after being
distributed evenly from the four perspectives (the perspectives of financial, service
users, internal process, and learning and growth), the performance was qualified
and in good performance (64.54%). This indicates that the peiformance in good
financial perspective can support service users, internal process, and learning
