Every activity around Gunung Leuser National Park ( GLNP ) have changed the condition of land use and level of vegetation index ( NDVI ) which surround the area , especially Leuser Ecosystem . This damaging condition is caused by illegal logging , opening new area for agricultural , especially oil palm and rubber plantation . Based on this situation , to detect changing of land use and NDVI quickly and accurately , it is used remote sensing and geographic information system ( GIS ) The purpose of this study is to find out briefly the density level of vegetation ( NDVI ) in every land use in 2002 and 2007 and to find out the correlation of vegetation density level with land use and also the changing of land use in 2002 and 2007 . The research found that the range of NDVI in every land use in 2002 and 2007 are varied between -0.375 0.577 , which is far vegetation , average vegetation and close vegetation in 2002 , and in 2007 the range of NVDI between -0.115-0.646 . The correlation between NVDI and land use in 2002 and 2007 is strongly related , where the correlation of coefficient value in 2002 is 0.855 and correlation of coefficient value in 2002 is 0.903 . In period 2002 until 2007 level of changing area has occured increasingly to secondary forest which is 19150.37 ha atau 19.80 % , Whereas the kind of using area are greatly decrease is primary forest which is 21099.17 ha or 22 % .
