Nowadays osteoporosis has became a global issue since the prevalence
increased with ltfetyle. Osteoporosir is a metobolic bone diseose that can be seen
by reduction in bone mass, than bone microdrchitecture and the incremmt of
bone fragility, so there will be a greater risk offracture. Osteoporosis dccars with
increasing aging population. One of the side fficts of conlraceptive depot
medroksi progestetone ocetate is osleoporosis, the use of contraceptive depot
medroksi plogesterune acetate vehich might inhibit the production of ovarian
estratliol, theoretically increasing the risk of osteopenia and osteoporosis after
menopaus4 Calcium ts olso a mineral most often gfuen to treat osteoporosis
because of the effects of calcium on bone is directly relaed n bone formation
T'he research objective was to determine the effect of calcium supPlemenldtion on
blood calcium levels and bone mineral dencity ( BMD ) in women o
contrdceptive depot medroks i progesterone acelale-
This study is an experimental study with pre and post test design only with
a simple randomization Subjects were reproductive women around 2l years - 44
years old as many as j0 persons that were devided into j groups : normal group,
osteopenia and osteoporosis. Blt4D and blood calcium of each group was
examined and measured afier given calcium suplement in 30 days, 60 to 90 dtrys.
The results showed that the given sample with calciunr suplements for 30
dayt, 60 days and 90 days showed a significant increase in blood calcium levcls
and BMD (p <0.0s ).
