Objective: To assess the efficacy of600 mg oral gabapentin and 900 mg oral gabapentin
combined with 30 mg/8 houts intravenous ketorolac as postoperative alalgesics for total
abdominal hysterectomy under general anesthesia towards Yisual analogue scale (VAS)
and side effects in 24 hours postoperatively.
Method: Double blind controlled trial was performedto 30 research subjects, at the age of
l8-60 years old with PS-ASA 1-2 that would undergo total aMominal hyster€€tomy with
general anesthesia. All of the subjecs were divided into 3 groups. Group A got placebo,
group B got 600 mg oral gabapentin and group C got 900 mg oral gabapentin combined
with intravenous 30 mgl8 hours ketorolac. The efficacy was ass€ssed with post operative
visual analogue scale (VAS), side effect incidence, and the need of rescue analgesia
pethidin in 24 hours postoperatively.
Result: When being compared, the VAS score of the group that took 600 mg oral
gabapentin and t}re group that took 900 mg oral gabap€ntin combined with 30 mglhours
intravenous ketorolac showed no significant difference (P0,05), but there was a
significant difference of postoperative VAS score between placebo group with the group
that took 600 mg oral gabapentin and with the grouP that took 900 mg oral gabapentin
combined with 30 mgiS hours intravenous ketomlac at the second hour monitoring
(p<0,001) and the fourth hour monitoring (IF0,045). At the later rnonitoring there was
no significant VAS score difference among these three groups (P0,05). The side effect
incidence and the need of rescue analgesia pethidin in 24 hours postop€ratively showed
no signifrcant difference ,rmong the three groups (P0,05)
Conclu$ion: The effects of 600 mg oral gabapentin and the effects of 9fl) mg oral
gabapentin combined with 30 mg/8 hours intravenous ketorolac as postoperative
analgesics for total abdominal hysterectomy under general anesthesia were not different
in decrrasing VAS score, side ellect inoi&ncent and the need of rescue analgesia
pethidine in 24 hours postoperatively
