Background : Leukocyte are part of innate immunity (congenital). Decrease in
the value ofneutrophils can be used as a simple parameter to measure the severity
of stress and systemic inflammation in patients with critical condition. Some
research suggests the influence ofanesthetic drugs on leukocytes and other studies
that look at the effect of anesthetic drugs on function of leukocyte subsets
especially neutrophils. This research was conducted to find out tlte difference of
induction effect of propofol and ketamine on decrease in the value of neutophils
in patients under general anestbesia.
Methods : Research clinical trials with Double Blind Randomized Control Trial
conducted in 32 patients ASA I and II were devided into two groups who
underwent general anesthesia. Patients in group propofol (A) given 2mglkg
propofol. patient in group ketamine (B) given 2mglkg ketamine. Then the
measured value of neutrophils before induction (Tl), lO minutes afler intubation
(T2), and 60 minutes after intubation (T3)-
Result : By using the TJndependent and Mann-Whitney U Test we formd T1
Neutrophils p-value : 0,636, T2 Neutrophils p-value : 0,846, T3 Neutrophils p-
value = 0,403.
Conclusion ; There was a difference in induction effect between Propofol and
ketamine on decrease in the value of neutrophils. There is statistically sipificant
effect of ketamine on difference in the value of neutophils, and there is no
statistically significant effect of propofol on difference in the value of neutrophils.
