HIV/AIDS is a health problem which threatens Indonesia and many other
countries throughout the world Compliance in consuming ARV (antiretroviral) is
one qf the factors whtch can prolong ODHA life expecwncy. Globally there are 42
million people living with HIV and AIDS, they consist of 38.6 million adults, 50% of
whom were women (19.2 million) and under 15 years (3.2 million). Statistical data
HIV / AIDS cases in Indonesia showed North Sumatra was ranked 7th out of 34
provinces in Indonesia which reported cases<~( HIV largest in 2014 is 1628 cases and
the number of HIV cases up to December 2014 in the province of North Sumatra a.<1
9595 and AIDS cases as many as 1,573 (Depkes RI, 2014). Compliance taking ARV
(antiretroviral) is one of the factors that can extend the life expectancy of people
living with HIV. In accordance with a recent study conducted in RSU Bhayangkara,
of the cumulative number of 348 people who take medication, assessed compliance
obedient>· 95% there were 295 people, obedient 80-95% there are 35 people and
obedient <80% there are 18 people.
The research used observational analytic method with case-control design.
The population was all ODHAs who got medication in Bhayangkara Hospital,
Medan, and who consumed ARV more than one year. The case group was 52 ODHA
that were not comply with consuming ARV and were not affected by opportunistic
infection. The control group was 52 ODHAs that complied with ARV medication; the
samples were totally 104 respondents (case: control= 1:1).
The result of multivariate analysis showed that the variables of perception
wasp < 0.001; OR 14.922; 95% CI= 4.576-48.658, this means that people living
with HIV who do not comply ARVs have the possibility perception is not good 14.9
times compared with adherent ODHA on ARVs and health care == p < 0.001; OR=
10.655, 95% Cl'"' 3.488-32.549 this means that people living with HIV who do not
comply ARVs have the possibility of not getting good service 10.6 times compared
with adherent ODHA on ARVs. Perception and health care is the most influential
factor and risk taking ARVs to people living with HIV in the Bhayangkara Hospitals.
It is recommended that the ho.spital management be able to improving the
perception of ODHA on ARV medication and increase the compliance in health care
to ODHA in the compliance in consuming ARV.
