The objectives of this study are to describe the types of figure of speech found in the
novel Me Before You. And to describe the meaning of figure speech used in the novel Me
Before You. In this paper, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method by
applying collecting data from library research. Primary data were taken from the novel
Me Before You, the secondary data were from references from scientific books and the
internet. The researcher uses concept of figure of speech by Gorys Keraf. The researcher
found that simile, metaphor, personification, metonymy, hyperbole, and irony were used
in the novel Me Before You. So, the results of this study state that the dominant figure of
speech used in the novel Me Before You is the simile which was found 13 times. Then the
hyperbole of 10 times is the second most used figure of speech. Meanwhile, metaphor is
found 8 times, personification is found 5 times, metonymy is found 5 times, and finally
irony is found 1 time. So, it can be concluded that simile is the dominant figure of speech
used in novel Me Before You.
