dc.description.abstract | BSA rickshaw is a public transportation which can be found in Pematangsiantar,
according to it’s existence since 1960’s in Pematangsiantar. This historical fact
should be a positive added value for BSA rickshaws riders, but at this time they
experiencing some difficulties to fulfilling their daily needs and this situation
likely to cause some negative effects in society, such as criminality. The
researcher has used the theory of social-economic written by Ahmad (1992) and
Melly Tan G. (1981) in the aim to understand this phenomenon.
This research is based on qualitative method. There are four BSA rickshaw riders
as respondents in this research. This research has used depth interview and
observation method to collecting data.
As the result, it shows that the increasing amount of another public transportation,
such as buses and illegal rickshaws, in Pematangsiantar has caused income
decreasing of BSA rickshaws riders, so that some of them should to do another
side jobs to fulfill their family daily needs, for example is children’s school
