As a junior high school students to be self-directed learning activities to balance the ongoing 2013 curriculum. Self-directed learning is a process where individuals take the initiative in carrying out learning activities. Junior high school students are expected to have self-directed learning in thinking independently, managing, planning, and directing their own learning to complete their responsibilities in the academic field. Supporting this requires academic self-efficacy, which is the ability to organize and carry out the steps necessary to complete the task. The research method used is correlational quantitative and aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and self-directed learning in students of SMP Parulian 2 Medan. The subjects used in this study were students of SMP Parulian 2 Medan, a total of 183 students. The measuring instruments used in this study are the academic self-efficacy scale made by researchers based on Bandura's theory (Bandura 1997) and the self-directed learning scale made by researchers based on Gibbons theory (Gibbons 2002). The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning in the students of SMP Parulian 2 Medan.en_US
