Online learning is a distance learning by internet on the basis of tackling the chain of transmission of the Covid-19 virus. There are various pros and cons of implementing this kind of learning. Researcher found various disruptions experienced by online learning students in Medan, both technically, psychologically, and physiologically. The students are trying to manage the situation to face or solve the problem which is called coping. Personality is one of the internal factors that influence the dominant coping strategy used. This study aims to describe the coping strategies of online learning students in Medan in terms of the Big Five Personality. The description of coping strategies will be measured by The Ways of Coping Scale based on the theory of Lazarus & Folkman, and personality will be measured by the Big Five Inventory (BFI) based on the theory of Goldberg and which has been adapted by John, Donahue, and Kentle. This study involved 377 online learning students in Medan. The results showed that the students with dominant personality of extraversion tend to use problem-focused coping and the students with the dominant personality of agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experiences tend to use emotion- focused coping.
