The problem that becomes important in the world of education in Indonesia is the decline
in student learning motivation during the pandemic. The level of extrinsic learning
motivation is influenced by the school environment which includes the natural aspects of
the school climate. A positive school climate contributes to student extrinsic motivation
and motivation directly. This study aims to determine the relationship between school
climate and student motivation at MAN Simalungun. This study uses a quantitative
approach with a correlational method. The population in this study were all filial school
students at MAN Simalungun and the sampling technique used was simple random
sampling with 171 subjects. The measuring instrument used is the school climate scale
which is based on 4 dimensions of the school climate by Thapa, (2012) with the
reliability value of the measuring instrument 0.818 and the extrinsic learning motivation
scale which is based on self-determination theory by Deci and Ryan (1986) with the
reliability value of the measuring instrument 0.873. Data were analyzed statistically using
simple regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that Ha is accepted and Ho is
rejected so that it can be said that there is a positive relationship between school climate
and extrinsic learning motivation of filial school students at MAN Simalungun during the
pandemic.
