dc.description.abstractSambung rambat (Mikania micrantha Kunth.) is a common plant in South Tapanuli ofNorth Sumatera province known asSiropaspara. The wild plant of the family Compositae leaves are used by native as a cure for wounds. Previous study showed this plant contains alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, and steroid.The purpose of this research was to determine the antibacterial activity ethanol extract gel of sambung rambat (GEEDSR) and its effectiveness to heal infected wound. The powdered dried leaves of sambung rambat were macerated with 80% ethanol. The resulting extract was tested for antibacterial activity of against Staphylococcus aureus (Sa), Staphylococcus epidermidis (Se) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(Pa) by agar diffusion method, HPMC based gels were prepared with varied concentration of plant extract, i.e12.50%; 15.00% and 17.50%. The effectiveness of the extract gel in healing guinea pig back excised wound was assessed. Bioplacenton was used as positive control, gel base as negative control. The healing percentage of the wound and the histopathology of angiogenesis process were measured from day 8th through day 15th. The result of antibacterial activity testing for EEDSR at concentration of 100 mg/ml gave the inhibition zone diameter for Se (15.25 mm); Pa is (14.32 mm) and Sa (13.95) mm. At concentration 25 mg/ml Se given inhibition (9.65) mm. The inhibition zone diameter for GEEDSR for concentration of 12.50% was (14.10 mm); 15% was(15,83 mm); and 17,50% was(16,69 mm). The effectiveness of healing infected wound percentation for GEEDSR concentration 12,50% gave (79.18%); 15.00% (82,39%) and 17.50% (87.15%). The statistical results byTukey showed no significant difference between 15% GEEDSR and Bioplacenton.The histopatological result of angiogenesis at day 15th for GEEDSR at concentration 15.00% and 17.50%showed nodifferences.en_US
