they have more and longer contact in service the clients and their families. The
important form of health service shown by the nurses to the clients is caring behavior
since it is the essence or focus of professional nursing practice. This study looks at the
problem of less optimal implementation of caring behavior done by the nurses in the in-
patient wards at Pimgadi Hospital Medan that it gives an impact on caring quality which
eventually influences client's satisfaction at having the nursing service in specific and
the health service in general.
This study uses Explanatory Survey Method with the Logistic Regression Test to
analyze the influence of individual characteristic (age, sex, education, marital status,
length of service) and the perception of executive nurse on the characteristics of
organization (leadership, work design). The samples of this study are 75 executive
nurses who are civil servants working in the in-patient wards.
The result of this study reveals that most of the nurses working at Pimgadi
Hospital Medan are female of 28 - 39 years old, graduated from Nursing Program Study
(D III) and, in general, they are married. Generally, the executive nurses have an average
perception on leadership and work design. The result of analytical test reveals that there
is an influence between sex (p = 0.022), length of service (p = 0.048), and the
perception of nurse on leadership (p = 0.017) on the implementation of caring behavior.
To improve the implementation of caring behavior, it is suggested that the
Management of Pimgadi Hospital Medan and the Head of Nursing Division pay good
attention, evaluate, and try to improve the performance of nurses in providing health
service according to the standard of nursing care to the patients | en_US |
