The objective of this study are 1) to know the relation of using high-speed
dental drill with the hearing trouble to dentist; 2) to note the relation of length daily
exposed with the hearing trouble on dentist; 3) to know the relation of the age with
the hearing trouble on dentist.
This study adopted a descriptive design using a cross-sectional method. The
data collecting taken by conducting a measure to the hearing trouble by an
audiometric tools and found a noise level intensity on the work place where the
dentist always be dealing with the high speed bur.
For the data analysis, it was processed under SPSS program, there applied a
uni-variety and bi-variety in this case analyzed vvith a Chi-Square method in
practically to study either found a relation between using a high speed bur or not
with the hearing trouble to the dentists. The location of study held on city X covering
7 Puskesmas, 1 City hospital and 1 private hospital and still on a clinic for practicing.
The result of study showed that : I) Noise level high-speed bur on city X
having a noise intensity rate exceeding a threshold rate (NAB); 2) a significance
result on its audiometric test between the length of expose with the hearing trouble on
daily expose hours spent exceeding 4 hours each day; 3) no significance relation
between the age with the hearing trouble; 4) no significance relation between the
noise level I intensity with the hearing trouble.
The efforts for controlling the noises recommended are as the following: I)
protection by wear standard hearing Protection Tool - Hearing Protective Device set
by dentist is in order to eliminate Noise Hazard; 2) self protection by having pause
time of 15 - 30 seconds per patient; whereby the expose time of drill 14-45 minutes;
3) working shift on Puskesmas; 4) existing socialization NIHL and uses Hearing
Protective Device by the PDGI
