dc.description.abstractHandwashing practice is an activity of washing hand using antiseptic/soap under the running water to wash off dirts from the skin. The purpose of this research is to know how the nurses wash their hand during the nursing activities at St.Elisabeth Hospital Medan. This research used descriptive research design. The population of this research is the nurses at ICU of St.Elisabeth Hospital Medan. The number of sample were 37 nurses and used total sampling technigue. The research was done in November 2013. The result of this research showed 78% nurses washed hand well, fair 17% and poor 5%. Based on the research done, it can be concluded that the performance of handwashing during nursing activities are good. Nurses are expected to follow and practice the procedure of how to wash hand well so that nosocomial infection will not happen.en_US
