dc.description.abstractThis thesis is entitled The Ability of 3-6 Year-Old Children in Acquiring English Vocabulary: A Case Study at Star Kids Kindergarten Binjai. This thesis analyzed about the stages and the most dominant stages experienced by 3-6 year-old children in in acquiring English vocabulary at Star Kids Kindergarten Binjai in the academic year 2017/2018 based on the syllabus of the kindergarten. In classifying the data, the writer uses Tabors and Snow (1994) sequential second language acquisition theory. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative supported by observation method. The data of this research are English vocabularies produced by the subject of this research. The sources of data are students at Star Kids Kindergarten Binjai, especially in the class B containing of 25 students. The result of this research shows that there are two stages are found, they are Telegraphic and Formulaic Speech and Productive Language covering: Greetings and Identity (24% telegraphic, 76% productive), Animals (0% telegraphic, 100% productive), Food and drink (20% telegraphic, 80% productive), Fruits (100% productive), Universe (32% telegraphic, 68% productive), Noun (80% telegraphic, 20% productive), Parts of body (44% telegraphic, 56% productive), Colour (100%), Number (32% telegraphic, 68% productive), Transportation (48% telegraphic, 52% productive), Vegetables (28% telegraphic, 72% productive), Plants (44% telegraphic, 56% productive). It also shows that the sequential or stage is dominated by Productive Language, it is caused by internal factors (student’s age, student’s intelligence, student’s motivation and student’s self-confidence) and external factors (teacher’s teaching style, teacher’s educational, family factors and environmental).en_US
dc.description.abstractSkripsi ini berjudul The Ability of 3-6 Year-Old Children in Acquiring English Vocabulary: A Case Study at Star Kids Kindergarten Binjai. Skripsi ini menganalisis tentang tingkatan dan tingkatan yang paling dominan yang ditemukan dalam pemerolehan kosakata bahasa Inggris oleh anak 3-6 tahun di PAUD Star Kids Binjai tahun ajaran 2017/2018 berdasarkan silabus di sekolah tersebut. Dalam mengklasifikasikan data, penulis menggunakan teori Tabors dan Snow (1994) tentang urutan pemerolehan bahasa kedua. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dan metode observasi. Data yang digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah kosakata bahasa Inggris yang dihasilkan oleh subjek dalam penelitian ini. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah murid-murid di PAUD Star Kids Binjai, khususnya di kelas B yang terdiri dari 25 murid. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa urutan atau tingkatan tersebut didominasi oleh productive language, hal tersebut disebabkan oleh faktor internal (usia murid, kecerdasan murid, motivasi murid dan kepercayaan diri murid) dan faktor eksternal (gaya guru mengajar, pendidikan guru, faktor keluarga dan lingkungan).en_US
