The research of synthesis nanosilicon from natural sand from District Tanjung Tiram
Regency of Asahan by magnesiothermic method with sodium chloride as calor
absorber have been done. The adding of natrium chloride aims to absorb the excess
heat that was produced by magnesium and excess heat that was produced by excess
heating time in order to prevent the nanosilicon’s particle from melting and formed
aglomeration, so the nanosilicon that have small particle could be obtained. The sand
that would be used were pureed first and isolated the silica from it, after that, the silica
were ultrasonicated with NaCl with 1:10 molar ratio. Silica that have been obtained
were reducted twice by magnesium with 1:2 molar ratio. First, the silica were reducted
at 800°C for 6 hours and the second the silica were reducted at 800°C for 7 hours.
Product of nanosilicon were characterized by diffractometer and transmission electron
microscop (TEM). The result showed that the product nanosilicon for 6 hours have
purity 49,4% and its particle size was 42,585 nm – 61,064 nm and from the TEM we
got that the particle size of nanosilicon were uneven, while the nanosilicon for 7 hours
have purity 29% and its particle size was 47,180 nm – 62,585 nm.
