Background: Vitamin D metabolite helps macrophage phacocyte activity in
killing Mycobacterium tuberculosis by increasing intracellular cathelicidin level. This
research was aimed to identify the effect of Vitamin D supplementation and Vitamin
D Receptor gene Fokl polymorphism in Batak with pulmonary TB. Methods: The
design of study was single-blinded randomized control clinical trial, with a total of 92
subject. Inclusion was Batak's people with new cases pulmonary TB having positive
sputum smear. Every subject followed and examined for levels of vitamin D at the
beginning and at the end of the eighth week, either given a capsule of 100,DOO IU of
vitamin D as much as 4x or placebo every 2 weeks. Serial sputum examination was
conducted every two weeks and subject were examined for FokI polymorphism by
using PCR-RFLP technique Kesimpulan: Vitamin D mempercepat terjadinya konversi
sputum dan genotip FF meningkatkan kemampuan ini.
Results: Sputum conversion achieved faster m intervention arm than the
placebo (p = 0,000). Sputum conversion mean time was 3,95 ± 1,95 weeks in
intervention arm and 5,52 ± 2,11 in placebo arm. In the intervention ann, subject with
FF has faster conve!'sion time than Ff (p = 0,011). Conclusion: Vitamin D fasten
sputum conversion time and FF genotype increase this ability
