dc.description.abstract | Adsorption of used cooking oil to the candlelnut shell activated charcoal has been
done. Pecan shell that has been washed and dried in the furnace at a temperature
of 750o C for 90 minutes then the charcoal sieved with 100 mesh sieve. Then
charcoal filter that passes 100 mesh soaked in 30 % NaCl solution for 24 hours
and then washed with distilled water and dried in the oven at 110o C for 3 hours.
Characterization of activated charcoal include test moisture content, ash content,
particle size and surface analysis with SEM test. Adsorption process used cooking
oil with the variation of time in contact with the adsorbent for 30, 60, and 90
minutes and the variations mass of adsorbent 2, 4, and 6 g. Parameters of used
cooking oil quality testing by a reduce its peroxide value ( PV ). The results
showed the longer contact time and the greater mass of the adsorbent than
increase the adsorption capacity, maximum adsorption process occurs on a time
variation of 90 minutes with 2 g of adsorbent which can reduce peroxide value of
used cooking oil of 34 meq / kg to 12 meq / kg and % reduction reached 64,70 %.
Analysis of reduced peroxide value followed the Langmuir and Freundlich
isothermic equation. | en_US |
