Pengalaman Perawat dalam Penerapan Manajemen Patient Safety di RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan

Abstract

Patient safety in a hospital is a system in which a hospital management should create patients' safety. Patient safety management is expected to be able to decrease KTD (unexpected accidence) so that people's confidence in hospital service increases. The objective of the research was to dig up nurses' experience in applying patient safety management in RSUP H Adam Malik, Medan. The research used qualitative phenomenological method The samples were 12 nurse practitioners, taken by using purposive sampling technique. The data were gathered by conducting in-depth interviews with 60-90 minutes in word by word and analyzed by using content analysis. The result of the research showed that there were 7 themes in nurses' experience in applying patient safety: (1) identifying patients' identity correctly, (2) making effective communication, (3) doing the security of high alert medicines, (4) assuring patient accuracy, procedure accuracy, and operating room accuracy before the treatment, (5) preventing and controlling infection, (6) anticipating the risk for patients fall down, and (7) nurses' obstacles in applying patient safety management. It is recommended that the hospital management evaluate the application of patient safety management so that service quality for inpatients can be improved.
