Glucose has been oxidized by molecular oxygen in acetone catalyzed by
palladium (II) chloride, copper (II) chloride and formic acid to produce glucaric acid
in 52 % yield.
The obtained glucaric acid can be reacted with sodium hydroxide to from
disodium glucarate with a melting point of 210°C. The glucaric acid was
characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopies and disodium glucarate with FTIR
spektroscopy.
