Diversity of Panacea Plants of National Park Forest of Deleng Lancuk of Karo Regency, North Sumatra under consultation of both Prof. Dr. Retno Widhiastuti, MS. as the coordinator and Prof. Dr. Ing. Temala Alexander Barus, M.Sc as the co-coordinator. The objective of the present study is to know the biodiversity of panacea plants of National Park Forest of Deleng Lancuk and find description of the potency (Total population and distribution) and how use and preserve it by the local community around the National Park Forest. The present study was conducted since January to April 2008. The data were collected by using 2 method: interview with the traditional treatment experts intended to know the types of panacea plants available locally, which parts of the plants used and what the importance of the plants. And then, to make a search of panacea plants into the forest using a survey method and directly guided by a local traditional treatment expert. The location of study was determined using a purposive sampling at five (5) different locations. At each location, 25 plots were made of each has 10 m x 10 m in size and the inter-plot spacing was of 25ms. The total plots of observation included 125. Based on the findings, it has been known that there are 53 types of panacea plant categorized into 33 families, in which the location I was predominated by Calamus Erectus Griff with the INP of 30.97%, and the location II, hill II, hill III, hill IV and hill V were predominated by Asplenium nidus L with the INP of 51.11 %, 52.52%, 790.33% and 33.96%, respectively. The result of significant index, Diversity Index, Uniformity Index and Equality Index showed that the National Park Forest of Deleng Lancuk has significant potency to grow panacea plants, however, the preservation of such panacea plants were still not well implemented due to the lack of consciousness of the community and the lack of cultivation of such plants.en_US
