Taxonomic study of Nepenthes in North Sumatera has been studied from February until
August 2011 using survey method and anatomical variation was studied using simple
scraping technique method There are 32 species of Nepenthes have recorded at ten (10)
Sub-Provinces in North Sumatera that can be differentiated based an morphological
variation (habit, bar, leaf, pitcher, inflorescence) and anatomical variation (stomata).
Stomata anomocytic with guard and epidermal cells having crystal recorded on N.
lingulata and N. mirabilis, while N. ampullaria, Nepenthes sp. and N. pectinata have
uneven guard and epidermal cells. Phenetic analysis on morphological and anatomical
variations suggest that Nepenthaceae in North Sumatera are divided into three (3)
groups with similarity varies from 63-94%. Ecological study indicated that most species
of Nepenthes are found in Mandailing Natal Sub-Province and Center Tapanuli Sub Province
with 13 species, generally occupy mountain area covered with mosses and
nearby swampy coastal area.
