dc.description.abstractA surfactant (2,3-dihydroxy) propyl-(2'-acetate-3'-laurate) propyl ether has been synthesized from glycerol via ketalization, chlorination, esterification, etherification, transesterification and deketalization reactions. Glycerol was ketalisized with aceton to produce solketal a-Monochlorohydrin was obtained by reacting of glycerol with hydrochloride gas. Then, this compound was esterified with acetic anhydride to produce diacetate chloropropane. The result of this reaction was etherified with solketal to obtain (4,4, -dimethyl-2,3-dioksolan) methyl-(2',3'-diasetat) propyl ether. After that, this compound was trans esterified with methyl laurate to produce (4.4-dimethyl-2,3-dioxolane) methyl-(2'-acetate-3'-laurate) propyl ether. Finally, this compound was deketalized with hydrochloric acid 1N to obtain (2,3-dihydroxy) propyl-(2-acetate-3'-laurate) propyl ether. The compound which produced in each step of reaction was identified by FT-IR and 'H-NMR spectrometers. The compound of (2,3-dihydroxy) propyl (-2'-acetate-3'-laurate) propyl ether was a surfactant with HLB value was 4.6.en_US
