dc.description.abstractD-Mannitol has been partially acetylated by reacting liquid of D-mannitol and acetic anhydride without solvent and catalyst to obtain 1,3,4,6- tetraacetylmannitol. Then 1,3,4,6-tetraacetylmannitol could be interesterified by adding methyl caprylic using sodium methoxyde as a catalyst to produce 1-capryl-3,4,6 triacetylmannitol. This product was a surfactant containing a long alkyl group, three methyl groups, and two hydroxyl groups in it's molecule. The structure of this compound was confirmed by FT-IR and 'H-NMR spectrometers, and the surface active of its solution was determined by Du-Nuoy tensiometer to obtain the HLB value, it was 3.78.en_US
