The soil must be able to sustain every load which is placed on the soil without
the occurrence of shear failure. The bearing capacity of the soil shear and ultimate
bearing capacity are the soil bearing reaction.
The·· objective of this thesis· is to analyze the bearing capacity of the spread
foundation by applying the loading test type of Plate Bearing Test on the width and
the depth side of the spread foundation at the full scale by comparing it with the
bearing capacity resulted from sondering test (Dutch Cone Penetration), and
analytical bearing capacity generated by Terzaghi, Meyerhof, Hansen, and Vesic
methods by using soil parameters which enumerated from laboratory test in line with
bearing capacity obtained by numerical fine elemental method using Plaxis program.
Based on the result of the conducting research it was found that the ultimate
bearing capacity generated by the Plate Bearing Test and the bearing capacity
originated from finite elemental method is only slightly different. The largest bearing
capacity occurred on Meyerhof method and the smallest one generated by Hansen
method.
It was concluded that the ultimate bearing capacity generated by Plate
Bearing Test is reliable used as one of the methods to determine the bearing capacity
of the shallow foundation because the generating bearing capacity is safer compared
with others.
