This research is to production of activated carbon from candlenut shell with chemical
process. Candlenut shell was impregnated with ZnC!i and made it pyrolysis by using
vertical tubular reaktor of stanless steel on flow N2• Candlenut shell was impregnated
ZnC!i on consentrations 2,5; 7,5; JO; 15; 30%. Temperature of pyrolysis 450, 500,
550°C and time 90, 120 and 180 minutes. Yield carbon active value has produced
maximum 41,86% & and value of iodine number 761mglg on impregnated ZnCl2 JO
%, temperature 450°C, time 120 minutes and surface are pore is 590m2
/g. FTIR
analysis dicided that candlenut shell had contain of matter which similari with
cellulosa and lignin. Adsorption capqbility of carbon active which the maximum
value iodine number, and was testing to adsorption of Pb on initial concentration 5
ppm, contact time 60 minutes, pH 4 and for Cr metal on initial concentration 10 ppm,
contact time 75 minutes, pH 3. Adsorption Freundlich and Pseudo-Second-Order
Kinetics Model more suitable to used activated carbon as adsorben to adsorption of
Cr than Pb metal.
