In social life is more advanced, a person is considered a very important
achievement. Educational institutions emphasize the importance of learning good
performances, competition and success in taking the test, both tests the knowledge
and skills tests. One of the institutions of formal education is school. With the
diversity of the students' skills in school it will be different levels of achievement.
There are many variables thought to affect student achievement. The purpose of
this study was to describe the diversity of these variables and reduce / summarize
thus gaining a dominant factor using factor analysis method. The process of trying
to find a relationship factor analysis (interrelationship) between a number of
variables are mutually independent with each other, so that it can be made of one
or a set of variables is smaller than the number of initial variables. Based on the
results of research conducted at SMAN 1 Medan by using factor analysis method
obtained three factors that affect student achievement. The first factor is the
dominant factor in the student and the environment (33.721%), the second is the
supporting factor (14.176%) and the third is an additional factor (11.248%). With
the amount of variance of the third factor of 59.145%.
